The  Vermont Ruck, a new  event promoting outdoor education and camaraderie, will take place the first weekend of spring on March 20th thru March 22nd,  at the Church of Our Saviour, Mission Farm in Killington, 05751. The Killington Section, Green Mountain Club will for the first time cosponsor this indoor/outdoor event with ALDHA, the Appalachian Long Distance Hikers Association in order to share their knowledge with both dreamers (planners), and or  anyone new to hiking or actively planning the possibility of section hiking or long distance hiking the Vermont Long Trail or AT, the Appalachian Trail or  any other long distance hiking trail scattered across the world.

This  Ruck, the first for Vermont, as there are multiple  Rucks taking place this time of year up and down the Appalachian Trail, which runs from Georgia to Maine, will focus on the new hiker and will feature information on cold weather hiking and survival skills geared toward increasing awareness, safety, and other trail related issues. GMC will be presenting on “Leave No Trace” and ALDHA will be introducing its new program “HASTE” , Hiker Awareness, Safety, and Trail Education that will be presented at 9 am til 12 noon on Saturday March 21,2020. Outdoor hikes are scheduled starting at 10 am, Saturday morning,  hosted by the Killington Section, Green Mountain Club.

On  Saturday night  at 7 pm, after a open to the public spaghetti and meatball community dinner (starts at 5 pm)  GMC Executive Director, Mike DeBonis, as keynote speaker, will share his 2019 adventure summiting Denali, North America’s highest peak in Alaska which he prepared for using Vermont’s  Long Trail for practice, thus confirming hiker’s belief that if you can hike the Long Trail in Vermont, you can hike any trail in the world.
Other programs are scheduled thruout the weekend. For more information, Google Vermont Ruck or visit https:aldha.org/vtruck  or contact GMC volunteer, Kathleen Krevetski at 802-779-1485 or [email protected]
